Drink of the Week: Pineapple Mint Julep

Pineapple Mint Julep

This post is either a few months late or many months early for the Kentucky Derby, but right on time for a good Mint Julep! I’ve never understood why people try to relegate such a magnificent drink to simply one weekend when it should truly be a summer staple for bourbon drinkers worldwide. We all know Whiskey and Bourbon garner much love during the colder months, but this one drink proves they can be a great choice for your summer line-up. Then you realize you can jazz it up with either a flavored syrup or an infused bourbon and you may just put some of your old summer staples to pasture. If not, at least you’ve tried something new and refreshing, such as this Pineapple Mint Julep.

Pineapple Mint Julep
4-6 mint sprigs
2.5 oz Pineapple Infused Bourbon
2 tsp water
1 tsp powdered sugar


– muddle your mint leaves, powdered sugar and water in the bottom of a Collins (or rocks) glass
– fill your glass to the brim with crushed or shaved ice
– add your bourbon and give the mixture a good stir
– re-fill ice to brim and garnish with a mint sprig

There seems to be a variance in thought as to whether its 2.5 or 3 ounces of bourbon.  Regardless, this is a liquor forward drink so it’s really going to depend on the drinker’s palate for bourbon. I lean towards 3 but ‘to each their own’. Either way you lean on this, hopefully it ends with saying “I’ll have another.” See what I did there? Classic.
