3 Infused Whiskey Sours to Enjoy on National Whiskey Sour Day

Tomorrow, August 25, 2012 is National Whiskey Sour Day. The Whiskey Sour: simple; delicious; iconic.

Whiskey Sour

3 parts whiskey
2 parts fresh lemon juice
1 part gomme syrup (simple syrup)

– combine ingredients in shaker filled with ice
– shake vigorously
– double strain into highball glass over fresh ice
garnish: maraschino cherry

Not much variation needed beyond which whiskey you choose to be your base. That last sentence only applies to those who don’t try to remix any and everything for the sake of “cocktail science.” Like myself. So here are 3 infused variations that you may like, whether I did or not.

Whiskey Sour Apple

3 parts apple infused whiskey
1.5 parts fresh lemon juice
1.5 parts simple syrup

*Apple infused whiskey: 750 mL whiskey, 2 medium apples (cored and diced into 8 slices); 5 – 7 days*

Ginger Sour

3 parts ginger infused whiskey
2 parts fresh lemon juice
1 simple syrup

Ginger infused whiskey: 750 mL whiskey, 1 cup unpeeled, sliced ginger; 3 – 5 days

PeppeRYE Sour

3 parts crack peppercorn infused rye whiskey
2 parts fresh lemon juice
1 part simple syrup

Crack peppercorn infused rye: 750 mL rye whiskey ,6 tbsp. black peppercorns; 7 – 10 days
